Dag 21
Vandaag werden we wel erg vroeg wakker. Ongeveer tussen 04:00 uur en 05:30 uur hebben we wakker gelegen van de regen. Het was een erg heftige tropische regenbui met onweer en het ging zo tekeer op het zinken golfplaten dak dat je er echt niet doorheen kon slapen. We hoorden het water van het dak stromen en door de goten rond het huis kolken. Gelukkig vielen we na deze bui weer in slaap en werden pas om 07:15 weer wakker. Na het ontbijt pakken we de koffers in en zoeken alle kleding die hier laten voor het gezin. Het is een soort bedankje voor alle goe zorgen.
Daarna gaan we om 12:00 uur met de taxi van de buurman met een groep van 9 man/vrouw (Marjolijn, Linda, Eva, Abigail, Meffia, Ama, David, Ruben en Henry) naar het zwembad op het terrein van de universiteit. Het is een prachtig zwembad met een duiktoren met 5 niveaus. Ruben springt vanaf de 5 m plank. Wij waren tot 14:30 uur de enigen in het zwembad. Niet vreemd want de toegangsprijs is 5 cedi p/p en voor de gemiddelde Ghanees is dit echt heel veel geld. Het is lekker om te zwemmen en spelen in het water. Vooral Abigail en Meffia hebben het naar hun zin. We geven ze allebei zwemles wat ze helemaal geweldig vinden. Kinderen in Ghana krijgen geen zwemles. Voor de terugreis lopen we naar het dichtsbijzijnde trotrostation en nemen de trotro. De chauffeur rijdt als een gek in een oud barrel van een bus waarvan de schuifdeur niet meer helemaal sluit. Goedkoop is het wel, we betalen 0,30 cd p/p, oftewel zo’n € 0,15 p/p. Dat is nog eens betaalbaar openbaar vervoer.
Vanavond komt Kendall eten en ook Ama en David eten mee. We eten heerlijke rijst met, salade en kip plus zelfgemaakte (gruwelijk hete) sambal. Voor Henry is er weer gebakken ei als kipvervanger.
‘s Avonds installeert David de Wii. Die man heeft ook echt van alles bij zich! We hebben heel veel lol met onder meer bowlen en hoepelen. Het is een heel gek idee dat mensen die bowling nog nooit hebben gezien, laat staan het echt hebben gespeeld, het mu op de Wii spelen. Ze hebben allemaal dikke pret, het is echt een gezellige afscheidsavond.

Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
